Karl Erk, a BNSF Railway fan, has come up with a unique set of EMD F45 locomotives, decorated in the new Premium Heritage paint scheme. Diesels in the A-B-A lashup series have been a staple on the old Santa Fe Railway, and now Karl continues the tradition with the F45 locomotives you see here.

The models are made from stock Athearn F45 engines, with the A units powered, and the B unit a dummy. Karl has numbered the A units to continue the numbering scheme from BNSF's own former roster numbers of F45 locomotives, and the B unit continues the numbering scheme from Santa Fe's SD45B/SD45-2B series.

Karl adds the B unit contains Head End Power (HEP) to power the model BNSF business trains, which often see the F45 A-B-A locomotive set for power. He has also added the plastic radome to each of the A units, so the engines can be used for Distributed Power along with other BNSF locomotives.

Recently, Karl was acclaimed for this fantastic model by being bestowed with the RMC/Dremel Kitbashing Award. QStation is proud to congratulate Karl on this monumentous accomplishment.
