Background

This car was originally known as the Laurel Ridge when Santa Fe purchased this car
from United States Steel in August 1962. It was later renamed Mountainair after its rebuilding
on 28 November 1962, and then renumbered on 21 August 1973 to ATSF #5004. The Santa Fe renamed the
car to the John S. Reed on 01 November 1990. BNSF renumbered the car to BNA #53 on 12 January
1996, and then to BNSF #8 on 10 September 1998. The accommodations found on this car are
four Staterooms, A through D, which have sofa beds. There is an observation area
for eight people, and a dining area, with service for eight.
