BNSF 6870: Victim of Physics

Around the first part of May 1999, ex-Santa Fe SD40-2 #5142, now BNSF #6870 was involved in a derailment west of Quanah, Texas. The locomotive suffered structural damage as the locomotive rolled over from the mishap and into a ditch.

These pictures were taken by Doyle Davis, and shows the wrecked unit on a spur track next the yard office in Quanah, Texas.

The unit is expected to be rebuilt in the famed Santa Fe Topeka shops, and returned to service.
