In the Lionel Catalog 2012 Volume 2 and Lionel 2012 Signature Edition were offerings which included the Santa Fe 4-8-4 Northerns with road numbers of #3751, and #3759:

    • ATSF #3751 - A famous survivor of the steam era, the Santa Fe #3751 joins the Lionel roster in 2011! First built in 1927, the 4-8-4 Northern type hauled the signature passenger trains of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. After a distinguished 26 years of service and later decades as a dormant park display, Santa Fe #3751 was brought back to life by the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society. The big Northern has made a number of excursion trips since 1991.
    • ATSF #3759 - A famous survivor of the steam era, the Santa Fe #3759 joins the Lionel roster in 2011! Built in 1928, Santa Fe #3759 was retired in 1953. Only a couple of years later, she was called on to haul a tourist train, taking to the rails once again. By 1957, she found a permanent home on display in Kingman, Arizona.
The manual for these tremendous locomotives can be found here.

Annouced in December 2011, with the last production run of August 2008, Athearn started delivery to hobby shops of the HO Scale R-T-R BNSF Heritage II AC4400CWs today.

BNSF operates 118 AC4400CWs, numbers 5600 through 5717. In coal service, they operate on run-through trains on the Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern, CSX and Canadian National. BNSF AC4400CW locomotives feature the close-clearance “gull wing” cab, which has two angles on the cab roof rather than one. This allows the locomotives to clear all types of coal loaders.

    • BNSF #5686 - ATH77653 - Retail Price: $119.98

On 10 September 2012, Lionel discussed one of the biggest announcements from the Signature Catalog and that was the new Motor City Express Set, with scale 89' auto racks.

The Motor City Express Set can be found in the Lionel 2013 Signature Edition Catalog, with details of the Motor City Express Set found on Pages 6 and 7. The Owner's Manual can be found at this location.

For us, the best part of the set is the BNSF Autorack, which can be found within the set as the last freight car, as it is distinguished from the other auto racks by having a non-working End-of-Train device attached. Another BNSF scale 89' auto rack can also be purchased separately.

Recently at the TCA York Meet, a production version of the Motor City Express Set was displayed. Below is a photo of the BNSF Auto Rack:

BNSF is currently utilizing the new Electric Motive Diesel SD32ECO locomotive model on its locomotive roster. The EMD SD32ECO is a 3,150 hp (2,350 kW) C-C diesel-electric locomotive rebuilt by Electro-Motive Diesel. It is primarily the application of a conversion kit to an existing EMD SD60-type locomotive. This involves replacing the existing 710G3A V16 prime mover with an EPA Tier-II-compliant 710G3B-T2 turbocharged V12, with Electronic fuel injection. Many of the donor SD60's major components and subsystems are recycled and are recertified as equal to new. However, the locomotive's control system is all new.

The new SD32ECO below, photographed by Mark Gillings utilizes a former Santa Fe SD45-2 as its base. It's rewarding to see former Santa Fe locomotives being utilized on today's modern railways instead of being hauled off for scrap.

In 1896, a book was published in San Francisco that told in great detail about why Santa Fe built its San Joaquin Valley Lines, the history of the financing, the people involved and the story of the construction. The book is the "The Valley Road", and is illustrated. It is a history of the Traffic Association of California, the League of Progress, the North American Navigation Company, the Merchants' Shipping Association, and the San Francisco and San Joaquin Valley Railway, with portraits of representative men that advocate California's progress and industrial supremacy. Often the book is "printed" in modern fashion, and going for unreasonable rates. A PDF version of the book is now available here for free.

Word was received today of the passing of two very influential members of the ATSF Historical Preservation.

The first is Robert Michael Burton, who had passed away on 04 January 2013. Mr. Burton was an expert on Santa Fe's Slaton Division and other Panhandle areas, and known to be a serious researcher. His obituary can be found here. His numerous historical articles can be found on the Society's site, located at this location.

The second is Russ Covitt, who passed away on 03 January 2013. Mr. Covitt was the owner of Russ Rail Stuff, and associated with Lonestar Models. He was recently the co-chairman of the Society's convention.

All of us here at QStation offer our most sincere condolences to the families of both gentlemen - they will truly be missed!

Kato has announced an N-Scale version of the BNSF #1 Business Car.

Originally built in 1952 for the then-president of the CB&Q Harry Murphy, BNSF #1 has had many names, including CB&Q “Burlington” and BN’s “Mississipi River” - today it has been refitted and relabeled with BNSF’s new “Swoosh” logo and the name of former BN CEO Gerald Grinstein who was part of the merging of the BN and ATSF into the BNSF. This model will replicate many of the specific details of this particular car, including a custom built rear porch, dome antennas on the roof, and the new name plates that are mounted with the BNSF lettering atop the car’s corrugated ribbing.

          Here are some sample photos:

The Kansas Historical Society now has a new site entitled Kansas Memory which is a fantastic photographic resource for the state of Kansas. It is also of value to any one looking for photos of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe. The site has had some off-line time, which can be expected since it's a fairly new site, but remains stable for the moment. This is a fantastic resource for the Web, and all of us here are thankful to the Kansas Historical Society for brining it on-line.

The blogs are brand new, and will contain their fist entries shortly. You can check the latest on all of Brian's blogs here.

Dale Rush, of Blairline, has announced a new N-scale ATSF (Santa Fe) 6-room Section House. This is a bungalow style house with both front and back screened porches. The Santa Fe Section Houses were provided to station agents, section foremen and their families in remote locations where housing was not readily available. More than one structure was often erected in each location. Many of these survive and were used as residences long after their railroad service was finished. This would also make a very nice bungalow style residence in any residential setting. Thank you to Dale and all the folks at Blairline for this great model!

The grading experience of moving all of the QStation.org servers to their new state-of-the-art datacenter, although going smoothly physically, turned out to be an electronic nightmare in the form of an overworked network, and slow server response.          Bill Jones is reaching out to Santa Fe Railway enthusiasts in the Eastern States to let you know about the 14th Annual East Coast Santa Fe Convention. It is a ½ day Friday though all day Sunday event held each year by various host Clubs.

This year’s meet is being hosted by the Gateway Model RR Club in Brooklawn, NJ. It is located in Southern New Jersey across the river from Philadelphia, Pa.

Here are PDF files of the event brochure and of a map to help find the event.

These meets are a lot of fun and the clinics are very informative. Some of past speakers have included such well known SFH&MS members as Bill Van der Meer, Don Borden, and Andy Sperandeo.

So if decide to take a trip in this direction and join for the weekend of MARCH 23-25, 2007.

Gene Crossett has been very busy, and has released the first of many new websites dealing with diesels of the Santa Fe Railway. Listed in the next column are the first three releases, two dealing with the FT model, and one dealing with the F3 model. These references are very informative, and visually appealing. QStation would like to thank Mr. Crossett for this tremendous labor of love towards the Santa Fe, and look for additional sites to be offered in the near future.

March 2007 has been a great month for those who enjoy the Santa Fe Railway on DVD.

Pentrex recently brought out their Raton Pass DVD. Santa Fe's line across the summit of Raton Pass in northern New Mexico presents one of the best shows in railroading and Pentrex captured the excitement in this fascinating presentation: during the first part of the month:

Pentrex is now releasing the Mojave Mainline on DVD. In 1992, Santa Fe sent train after train across California's Mojave Desert, making the Needles Sub one of the busiest lines in the nation. Here's your chance to get great views of Santa Fe railroading at its finest:

Paul Anderson has added many new, large-size, photos of modern BNSF locomotives to his website.

Paul Brown has added a new Amtrak photo, and many fantastic photos of the BNSF in action in the Western part of the US to his website.

James Costello has finished the second full day of railfanning during his April 2006 trip to Winslow, AZ on his website.
